A very challenging process requirement is to efficiently combine powdered ingredients into liquid ingredients, either in a batch process, or in a continuous process. Ross Solid Liquid Injection Manifold (SLIM) Systems are rotor and stator, high shear mixers that draw liquids and solids into the rotor/stator interface, instantaneously exposing the mixture to mechanical and hydraulic shear and expelling the product through the openings in the stator.
The Batch system utilizes a tube connected to the rotor/stator area, along with a hopper or wand to suck powders or liquids into the high shear zone where they are immediately dispersed or emulsified by the high speed rotor/stator combination. The Super SLIM works well under ambient or vacuum conditions. Under vacuum, the added inducement caused by the differential pressure between the inside and outside of the vessel creates a significant motivating force for powder or liquid induction. Additionally, incorporating ingredients under vacuum helps maintain an air-free product, eliminating the need for lengthy post-process deaeration steps.
The Inline system draws liquid and solids into separate inlet connections, instantaneously exposes the mixture to mechanical and hydraulic shear through the rotor/stator interface, and expels the product through the outlet connection. The Inline SLIM System is highly useful for:
- Adding powder to liquid in a vessel to produce a "batch" of finished product.
- Adding powder continuously to a stream of liquid to produce a continuous flow of solids dispersed in liquid.
