Solids/Liquid Injection Manifold (SLIM) Technology

How it Works

Benefits of choosing a ROSS SLIM Mixer

What does the ROSS SLIM Technology do?

The ROSS Solid/Liquid Injection Manifold (SLIM) is a proprietary induction system that introduces raw powders such as fumed silica, calcium carbonate, titanium dioxide, xanthan gum, thixotropic agents, and pigments into the liquid phase right in the high shear zone, promoting instant wet-out. As a result, high-quality dispersions, suspensions, and emulsions can be created in significantly less time compared to traditional methods of adding powders on top of an agitated batch or using an eductor.

How does the ROSS SLIM Technology work?

The SLIM rotor/stator generates an intense vacuum in the high shear zone and sucks in powders into a fluid stream (inline) or sub-surface (batch). Since solids and liquids are combined at the exact point where intense mixing takes place, the SLIM is capable of handling extraordinarily large volumes of solids without clogging or agglomerates.

Why Choose a ROSS SLIM Mixer?

  • product feature

Design - The ROSS SLIM is available in batch or inline configuration. It not only eliminates typical production setbacks by accelerating the mixing process, but also enables a cleaner and more operator-friendly method of raw material addition, minimizing dusting in the plant atmosphere.

  • product feature

Flexibility – The ROSS SLIM works with either a hose & wand arrangement, or with a fixed hopper mounted atop the powder induction connection of the mixing chamber. The decision whether to use the wand or the hopper depends on process conditions, the nature of the powders being handled, and the desired goals.

  • product feature

Ease of Use – In traditional eductor-based powder induction systems, balancing the performance of the pump, eductor and mixer often requires a skilled operator and can prove to be difficult. In comparison, an Inline SLIM Mixer utilizes just one device to perform all three functions. Operation is simpler and more straightforward – just turn on the mixer and start inducting powders. The Inline SLIM is usually installed at floor level so operators need not climb up a mezzanine carrying heavy bags of powder. Solids can also be delivered via automatic feeding devices.

  • product feature

3A Approved - The Inline SLIM is 3A-approved and easily integrated into almost any food, beverage, and pharmaceutical processing line. Supplied on a mobile cart, it can serve virtually any size vessel located anywhere in the plant.
